Luxurious Outdoor Ideas
When you think of luxurious homes, a plush and expansive interior first comes to mind, but the outdoor area shouldn’t be forgotten. A well designed outdoor room often provides the ‘wow’ factor to a home and gives homeowners an incredible space for entertaining family and friends.
Whether you have a home theatre or not, there is no reason why you can’t use your outdoor room for watching TV or movies. A pull-down screen and a projector will allow you to set up a temporary outdoor cinema. Add some beanbags and popcorn, and you have family movie nights covered all summer long.
A TV for the Outdoor Room
If you prefer a more permanent set-up, you can invest in a large screen TV or fixed screen. Invite friends over for the big footy matches or watch the latest movie enjoying the fresh air. On a warm week night, keep cool by cooking tea outside, taking a dip in the pool and finish the night watching TV outside.
The ultimate man cave includes a bar, but if you don’t have a cave, the outdoor room is the next best thing. Depending on how much room you have to devote to your bar, you can go all out with a free-standing bar with fridges and sink and integrate it into your outdoor kitchen. Otherwise, you can add some bar stools in front of the servery, and you have a comfortable place to sit and chat over a cold drink.
Upgrade the Drinks Fridge to a Coolroom
While an outdoor drinks fridge is a must, you can take it the lofty heights of a coolroom as part of your outdoor area plan. The size of a walk-in pantry but as cold as your refrigerator, a coolroom will allow you to store as many drinks, food and large platters as you could need for a weekend of entertaining. Custom made to the size you need and integrated to match the cabinetry of your outdoor kitchen; the coolroom is sure to impress.
Resort Style Furniture
If you want to relax in style make sure you choose outdoor furniture that is comfortable to sit in for several hours. A hanging chair overlooking the pool is the perfect way to while away a few hours with a good book. For your alfresco area, choose outdoor dining chairs, barstools and lounges that look as inviting as they feel. Co-ordinate your furniture with some cushion, throw rugs and decorating pieces and your guests will settle in for a long night.
There is no point spending time and money on your ultimate outdoor room if you can’t use it all year round. A good alfresco design will incorporate some heating for winter and cooling for summer. An overhead fan or misting sprays can reduce the air temperature by several degrees without wetting your guests. If you want to use your outdoor room through winter, decide on wall heaters, a patio heater, fire pit or fully enclose the area with blinds.
Resort Style Pool
Overlooking a luxurious pool or spa from your alfresco will give you that resort feel without leaving home. You could have a bartender and a swim-up bar, but if not, at least ensure your pool has steps and a shaded area for you to enjoy a drink. It will still feel like your favourite holiday hotel and with a climate like Perth’s it would be a shame not to have a pool as part of your outdoor entertaining space.
A luxury home needs the ultimate outdoor room as the icing on the cake. When a well-designed alfresco area and backyard has both functional and aesthetic features, it’s perfect for creating memories.
