Background
The homeowners wanted a luxury home with soft tones and intricate detail inside, so they set about designing a custom Hamptons style home with elegant interior spaces and decor.
Completed in late 2016, the home is a stylish, comfortable family house with luxurious features. Finishing throughout the house is to the highest standard after being completed by hand-picked, skilled tradespeople with an eye for detail.
What is Hamptons Style?
Hamptons style houses are inspired by classic American beach houses in The Hamptons – a coastal holiday destination for wealthy New Yorkers. These houses feature oversized spaces, beautiful high ceilings and an interior decorating style based on minimalist, muted colour palettes. Typically, white walls enhance the beautiful natural light that floods into the house while natural tones and cream colours on the upholstery and furnishings add to the feeling of natural elegance.
Walkthrough – Downstairs Foyer
Entering through the front door into a stunning, oversized foyer, the first thing you will notice is the elegant, rectified porcelain tiled floor. The extra wide, grand staircase has an American white oak handrail stained to match the European oak floors stained to a dark finish.
A massive office just off the foyer is the perfect space for working from home. A generously-sized, semi ensuite sits between the office and beautifully appointed guest bedroom. With more than enough storage and floor space, the guest bedroom could easily be the main bedroom for a couple that prefers to sleep downstairs.
Hamptons Style Kitchen & Living Area
From the foyer, double glass doors open into an expansive open-plan kitchen, dining and living space. The standout feature of the kitchen is the white, marble-look engineered stone on all counter tops and work areas. The kitchen has integrated cabinetry and a large walk-in pantry located behind.
Access to the storage room and garage is also off the kitchen for easy access with the food shopping. An enormous island bench allows for bar stools underneath and could comfortably seat the entire family. The floor is the same rich brown coloured European oak timber as the staircase which is accented by plush cream and grey rugs under the dining table and lounges.
The coffered ceiling and stunning chandeliers help to define distinct kitchen, dining and living zones within the large open plan space. Lofty ceilings and white French doors and windows add to the light and bright feel of the hub of the home.
Luxurious Outdoor Alfresco Area
The same porcelain tiles from the foyer are found again outside, bringing indoors and outdoors together in a large alfresco outdoor room with outdoor kitchen. The spacious area is big enough for a large table and lounge to cater for the biggest crowd.
Electric outdoor blinds allow the family to entertain through most of the year. The recessed ceiling defines the different zones of the outdoor area. A kids cubby house is designed in the same style as the home and completes a comfortable backyard made for relaxing and entertaining in comfort.
Home Theatre & Laundry
We finish off our tour of the downstairs with a look at the home theatre and laundry areas. An enclosed theatre room is fitted with abundant acoustic storage space. The plush carpet and thick curtains aid noise reduction. The recessed ceiling with concealed LED lighting adds to the room’s atmosphere, setting the mood for movie nights with the whole family.
The well-appointed laundry has a large bench top for sorting, plenty of under-bench, overhead and full-length cupboard storage. In a nice touch that shows attention to detail, there is a concealed laundry chute that has two collection points on the first floor.
Upstairs – Four Bedrooms & Two Bathrooms
The home’s stunning, central staircase takes you up to a generous upstairs living room perfect for the kids. With storage on two walls and a TV, the kids can spend time here with friends.
Oversized, wide corridors upstairs add to the feeling space and luxury in the home. The three minor bedrooms are all double size with generous storage space. One bedroom opens to a balcony at the front of the home and has access to a bathroom making it suitable as a second main bedroom.
Across the landing is the spacious Hamptons style master bedroom which has large french windows that open onto the front yard. Featuring a daybed in front of a large bay window with deep drawers beneath for plenty of extra storage, this massive bedroom is the perfect parents’ retreat.
From the master bedroom you walk through the walk-in closet area into a stunning Hamptons style bathroom. No detail has been forgotten in this bathroom that features dark tile on the floor and textured wall tiles around the extra large double shower with a beautiful muted grey pattern. The other walls are finished with stunning white, raised subway tiles while the claw-foot bath and chrome tapware complete the picture of opulence.
The three bedrooms on the other side of the top floor are also generous in size and have easy access to the bathroom and laundry chute.

The home attracted plenty of interest during construction and on completion. This luxury residence won JAV Developments the 2017 HIA Housing Award for Custom Built Homes $1.2 – $1.6M value.
